MONTPELLIER HERAULT SC – STADE DE LA MOSSON – CAPACITY: 32,900

About the Stade de la Mosson
Formerly a 16,000-seater stadium, it was entirely rebuilt in 1998 to host 6 games of the 1998 FIFA World Cup including the quarter final between Germany and Mexico. It was also used as a venue for group stage matches in the 2007 Rugby World Cup including games featuring South Africa, USA and Tonga.

The stadium is dominated by the triple tiered open stand, the south stand which can hold over 15,000 fans. The three other stands are all covered two tier effects.  During the summer months the open stand can get very warm indeed, so be warned if you are planning on sitting here.  However, the views of the surrounding area are very good indeed.

About Montpellier Herault SC
The club as we know it today was only formed in 1974 and so you would expect little progress but they have actually come a long way in a short period.  They were champions of the regional leagues in 1976 and moved up through the league structure during the 1980’s.  In 1987 they won the 2nd division and were promoted to the top league for the first time.  Just two season later they won the Coup de France, beating Racing club Paris in front of a full house at the Parc des Princes.  Two years later they won the League Cup.  They were also runners up in the Coup de France in 1994, losing 3-0 to Auxerre.  In 1999 they also won the Intertoto Cup.  After relegation in the first decade of this century, they returned to the top league in May 2009 after beating Strasbourg at home to seal the runners up spot in League 2.
